Urban Challenge - San Diego: Olds/Garcia finish first only to be DQed, Birney/Flory 10th
Well, official results STILL aren't available (why? who knows? is it so hard to post some results?), but we do know this much. The FBTC team of David Olds and Damian Garcia crossed the finish line 1st, but were subsequently disqualified for an incorrect picture at one of the checkpoints...lesson learned I guess...but in my book all that matters is that the Bunnies won again! Well done.
The rumor mill also reports that FBTC newbie urban challengers Simon Flory and Peter Birney placed 10th in the San Diego race, qualifying for a trip to the Urban Challenge Nationals in New Orleans. How many grassroots running clubs have 3 separate teams qualified for nationals? Well, I have no idea, but not many, that is for sure. Simon and Peter reportedly broke with urban challenge tradition and instead of using the internet and cell phones to find the locations of the checkpoints actually did some sort of vision quest involving peyote, acupressure, vodoo dolls, and some other weird shaman-shiznit. Hey, whatever it takes...
